For my part I know nothing with any certainty,
but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

What’s in a name?

Ever wonder where our name “Theiyā Arts” came from?

Indian classical dance was what brought Karen and Gaby together, and it is the
dance tradition that underlies the work of Theiya Arts. ‘THEIYA’ is the sound of one
of the first dance steps that we learn. It is the sound that brings students together in
class, it is a movement that links teacher to student, and it connects dancers together
around the world.

In Greek Mythology, Theia is the Titan of sight and the shining light of the clear blue
sky. She is also the goddess who endowed gold, silver and gems with their brilliance.

This resonated with us both – a sound that connects and a light that shines bright –
as so our name was born.

Sparking creativity and nurturing talent

When we had to transfer all of our children’s dance classes online, it gave us the
possibility of dividing up bigger classes into small class groups. We love that this
helps us to work more individually with each student.

Every child is different. Every child learns in a different way. The path to uncovering
their passion and enthusiasm and ability in dance will be different for each child.
Every child is different, so it is our job to pay attention, to listen, and to respond to
what each child needs so that they shine bright.

At the start of 2020 we had expected to be presenting on stage the first Theiya Arts
first Student Showcase. A global pandemic but an end to that idea, and so this Dance
Video we are sharing today is a small way for us to celebrate our students and show
our appreciation for their hard work with us over the past year.
